Learn Spanish with: The vegan who killed jellyfish

Hello everyone, today we are going to learn Spanish with a story from a friend, it was 2013 and I was working as a sports tourist animator in Menorca and that's where I met Alicia.

Alicia was from the north of Spain but as I was in Menorca working during the summer season, she was a very nice girl, quite attractive, sporty, funny, she liked to party, dance, sing and she didn't eat meat or anything that came from animals, Alicia was Vegan.

I have to admit that on some occasions I have been tempted to be vegan although I have not succeeded, I am a carnivore, I like meat and I think I need it. Perhaps believing that I need it is like someone who has a vice and believes that without it he is nobody, it may be psychological, who knows, but I have never been more than 4 times on a vegan diet. We will talk about it in another post. Let's talk about my friend Alicia.

Menorca has spectacular beaches with crystal clear waters where when you swim you not only see fish but also your own shadow.

you not only see fish but you also see your own shadow, the turquoise blue waters of Menorca should be part of the world heritage! Spending a summer in Menorca and not visiting all its beaches is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower from different angles ¨a geographical sin¨. It is a must! There are coves in Menorca where it is difficult to get to but once you do you realise that paradise exists. Have you ever seen lemon trees on a beach? Try to remember and tell me in the comments.

One day the whole animation team and some friends went to a cove to spend the day, the weather was spectacular and the colours were very bright. We had a great time playing beach volleyball and snorkelling although there was a problem that day: the water was full of jellyfish!...and jellyfish in the water .... We were all scared of them, so we played volleyball, all but one of us. Alicia preferred to take her net and go jellyfish hunting.

Leaving a jellyfish in the sun is like putting ice in a fire, it melts immediately, not its habitat, it dies before the count of three leaving a melted jellyfish body that looks a lot like an old rag. There were more than twenty of them.

Once we finished the game of beach volleyball it was a colleague who asked him about such a bloody feat.

- Why did you kill those jellyfish?

- Because they sting - answered Alicia

- But aren't you always defending animal rights? - he asked a bit indignant

- Well, yes, but this is not the same thing. I have avoided a tragedy, imagine you get stung by 10 jellyfish in the water, you can die - said Alicia convinced of her little speech.

- You can also die from several bee stings, from a dog bite because of a cat allergy, from a horse or donkey bite .... and that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice these and other animals, I thought you were a bit more condescending towards animals, you always talk about veganism and animal rights but I see that's not the case," replied John.

Alicia didn't know what to say, she knew she hadn't acted right.

And you, what do you think?
