Does Studying Hard Guarantee Success? A Thrilling Debate with Our Teen Students!

A few days ago, we held a captivating debate in one of our Spanish classes with a group of 17-year-old students here in Hong Kong. We posed a fundamental yet profound question: Does studying hard guarantee success in life?

As a Spanish tutor, this was an absolutely incredible lesson. There is nothing more rewarding than watching teenagers passionately defend their ideas and opinions in a second language—even when they are still building the vocabulary to do so.

Whether they are preparing for their IGCSE Spanish exams or just learning for fun, seeing them think critically in Spanish was priceless. Of course, there were a few mistakes along the way, but the absolute satisfaction of watching them discurrir (think on their feet) was amazing.

The perspectives during our Spanish lessons were as diverse as the students themselves:

  • The Traditional Path: Some firmly argued that hard work and intensive studying are essential building blocks for a stable and prosperous future.

  • The Evolving World: Others counter-argued that formal studying isn't the only route to fulfillment. They highlighted that life changes rapidly, pointing out that their future dream jobs might not even exist yet!

  • Redefining Success: We looked at success stories from all walks of life—from individuals who built traditional careers through university degrees, to self-made YouTubers and elite athletes.

It was a fantastic, high-energy lesson that the students absolutely loved. It is exactly the kind of engaging, real-world learning experience that I bring to my private Spanish lessons in Hong Kong.

Want to see how it went?

Guess what! Today, we brought this exact lesson topic to our daily YouTube livestream. I highly encourage you to tune in, watch how we break down these complex debates, and practice your Spanish with us.
