Travel Alone or in a Group? I’m Not Following the Little Flag.
Some people love travelling in a group.
They feel safer.
They make friends.
They visit plenty of places without having to organise every bloody detail.
Fair enough.
Then there are people who hear “group trip” and immediately need a holiday to recover from the idea.
The timetable.
The matching stickers.
The guide with the little flag.
And that person on the bus who has a story about absolutely everything.
We haven’t left the airport yet, David.
Please.

Personally, I prefer travelling alone.
And when I say alone, I mean alone.
Not “alone, but meeting twelve strangers for dinner.”
Not “alone, but looking for someone to join me.”
Just me.
Walking.
Taking photographs.
Turning down a street because the light looks interesting.
Stopping for twenty minutes because something catches my eye.
Nobody asking, “What are you photographing?”
Nobody saying, “Shall we go?”
No. We shall not.
There is no we today.
I spend a good part of the year talking.
Teaching Spanish.
Asking questions.
Explaining things.
Helping students find the words they need.
I love it.
But on holiday,
I don’t need another conversation.
I need a walk.
A camera.
And the chance to hear myself think without someone asking where we’re having lunch.
My ideal holiday?
Walk. Take photographs. Talk to nobody.
That might sound miserable to you.
To me, it sounds magnificent.
But this isn’t about proving that travelling alone is better.
Maybe you love sharing every meal.
Maybe a group gives you the confidence to visit somewhere new.
Maybe travelling alone sounds less like freedom and more like eating dinner while pretending to be very interested in your phone.
Fair enough.
Your holiday. Your choice.
Just don’t hand me a matching T-shirt.
This week at Spanish Super Tutor, we’re asking:
¿Prefieres viajar solo o en grupo? ¿Por qué?Do you prefer travelling alone or in a group? Why?
Try:
“Prefiero viajar solo porque no quiero depender de nadie.”I prefer travelling alone because I don’t want to depend on anyone.
Or:
“Prefiero viajar en grupo porque me gusta compartir la experiencia.”I prefer travelling in a group because I like sharing the experience.
Then tell us what would drive you mad.
The silence?
The schedule?
David on the bus?
Bring an opinion. Give us a reason. We’ll work on the Spanish.

This week, we’re talking about your holidays.
