Introduction to Subjunctive in Spanish
The subjunctive is used to express desires, commands, possibility, opinions, ambiguity and to describe situations that have not yet occurred.
In Spanish, the subjunctive must be part of a subordinate clause. Then, the main sentence must express that doubt, desire or emotion. For example:
Es bueno que Juan coma.
Dudo que Juan coma.
Ojalá que Catherine aprenda el subjuntivo
Necesito que vayas a Central
Me gusta que estudies español
One of the most frequent scenarios where we may need the subjunctive is when we have a verb followed by the nexus "que". The choice of the subjunctive or indicative mode will depend on the meaning of the main verb and also on whether it is a negative, affirmative or interrogative sentence.....
