Spanish Holidays Lesson: Beach vs Mountains

  • 1 Schritt

Infos

In this interactive IGCSE Spanish lesson, students explore the topic of holidays, beach holidays and mountain holidays while developing key skills in speaking, reading, vocabulary and grammar. The lesson begins with a warm-up based on opinion questions about holidays, designed to activate prior vocabulary and encourage students to speak in Spanish from the start. Students then read and discuss two opposing opinions: Juan loves summer holidays at the beach because he enjoys the sun, beach bars, music, parties and meeting new people, while Marta prefers winter holidays in the mountains because she values peace, nature, silence and disconnecting from everyday stress. Through reading activities, flashcards, vocabulary practice, quiz questions, true or false tasks, correction of false statements and debate prompts, students learn how to express opinions with greater clarity and confidence in Spanish. They also practise holiday-related verbs in six verb tenses, including the present, preterite, imperfect, present perfect, near future and subjunctive. This helps students strengthen the grammatical accuracy needed for the IGCSE Spanish exam. The lesson also includes speaking structures, connectors and useful phrases to compare ideas, justify opinions, agree or disagree, give examples and conclude answers effectively. This class helps students talk about real-life topics such as travel, tourism, relaxation, adventure, family holidays, technology, money, mental health and the importance of disconnecting. It is ideal for learners who want to improve fluency, expand their vocabulary and gain confidence for the IGCSE Spanish speaking exam. A dynamic and communicative lesson designed to help students learn Spanish while debating a question everyone can relate to: Where would you rather go on holiday: the beach or the mountains?
